Aging is not only in Bangladesh it is going on all over the world.According to the World Health
Organization, between 2015 and 2050, the proportion of the population aged 60 will almost double, from 12% to 22% in percentage terms. The reasons for the aging population in developed countries are more noticeable through the demographic transition model, the birth rate and death rate are coexisting in developed countries and the population growth rate of the countries is negative. As a result, the aging population is increasing. For example, a statistic from Japan shows that 30% of the total population belongs to the elderly population.
Bangladesh is a developing country. The population growth rate was 1.37% in 2011 census which has reached 1.22% in 2022 .The population growth rate of this country is decreasing which is good in one way and bad in other. Because the rate of population growth is low it means that the country will eventually transform into an equilibrium population. Equilibrium population is the population of the country where there is a positive relationship between population and wealth. On the other hand, reduction in population growth rate is not a good thing at all as it will reduce the number of working people and increase the proportion of dependent population. A statistic of Bangladesh shows that in 2018, the number of men in the age group of 60-64 was 1.3% and the number of women was 1.1%. But in 2022, males accounted for 1.6% of the population aged 60-64 and females 1.5%. Which is constantly increasing and will continue to increase because the country is giving a lot of importance to the health sector, reducing infant mortality and maternal mortality. Life expectancy has increased. According to Macrotrends data, currently the average life expectancy in Bangladesh is 73.29 years. Compared to 2021, there has been an increase of 0.39%.

What should be do for ageing people?
However, there is a lot of talk about aging, but what we should pay attention to now is the health and safety of the aging population. In view of the above data, it stands to reason that the aging population is increasing day by day, so we should be more careful about them.Currently, 25% of the aging population is living in Bangladesh against the total population. The aging population should never be considered as a burden for the country as today's present is built on their hard work. They are our resource and guide. Because our new generation has a lot to learn from their wisdom, intelligence and thinking. Be it in the family, be it in the society, be it in the country.
A phenomenon that often happens in our society is parent abuse by children. Which is really painful. A parent who tries to keep his child happy despite all the odds. Sacrificing his own happiness and joy, he makes his child grow up with difficulty, but when the child tortures the parent, the sad parent never curses. Because they always want the child's well-being, want the child's happiness. That is why the character Ishwari Patni created by Bharatchandra Raygunakar says "My child should live in milk and rice". We have to remember that today's children are tomorrow's elders and today's children are tomorrow's future. Today your parents are old, tomorrow you will be old too. Your child will receive the same treatment as you would have treated your elderly parents. Now you decide what you will do with parent and child, good or bad.
A nursing home that works for the elderly. It also exists in every country. It also exists in our country. There are many people in the society who cannot take care of their parents due to family, social, economic reasons. So they send their parents to briddhasram. Which is very difficult for the parents but they are helpless they cannot say anything so that the child does not suffer. Well, think about it, how much pain will you have when you have to leave the family when you are old enough to leave the family built with your pain, love, affection, and compassion? How will it feel when you have to leave the family for various festivals and events? Only then you have to live in the memories of the past. Which we never want.Even if it is a little difficult to look after the parents in their old age, or to keep my child as a playmate, they will be very happy. What do they want? They want to spend their last life laughing and playing. Is it too much for them to ask of us? No, never, they deserve it, and we, as children, must give it.
May all the old parents of the world be well, may those children who find their happiness in the happiness of their parents be well.
