Population Projection

Population projections

Population projection refers to how the size or composition of the population of a country or region will reflect in the future.  Generally, how the future population will be according to gender and age is the main point of population projection. It does not mean that just predicting about something will organize it in the future. Basically, all the special qualities of population projection (fertility, mortality, intention).  A population projection is the change in the size or composition of the population if it is organized in the future.

 Purpose of population projection

Data can be obtained on who is retiring or needing to be taken from the labor force. For example, the cadres recruited by the PSC of our country can be used subject to vacancies. How many educational institutions does the government need?  What type of structure is needed, teachers are needed, these data can be used for collection. How many hospitals are needed in the country in 1 year or how many doctors are needed there. It can be used in housing planning.  If we talk about the shelter project of the Bangladesh government, it can be seen that the Aomi League government took the initiative of this project in 1997 and in 2018-19, about 250,000 homeless families were taken as shelter. This is an example of a type of population projection.

Population projections and population estimates

There are some differences between population projection and population projection. For example, population projection is based only on current and past data. But population projection is based on future data. Population projection is a short-term process. But population projection is a long-term process.  Population estimation requires observational data but projection does not. Population estimation mainly focuses on population size. But population projection works on many characteristics including population size, age, marriage, education etc.  .

National and international activities

Generally, the responsible government agencies are the ones who make these population projections or estimates. The agencies mainly plan and implement based on age, sex, needs. Education, occupation, marital status, etc. are added to get the details of the population. National Estimates  Many times it fails to coordinate. Because of the various errors or inconsistencies in the census. For this reason, when the United States or the United Nations make any estimates or population projections based on our country, there is a huge gap between their data and the data of our country's organizations.  can be seen  And then a conflict with the government has to be faced. These population estimates or projections change subject to chance.
